Credit Union History

Yakima Valley Credit Union first opened its doors in January 1939 as the Fireman's Credit Union. There were 25 firemen who joined the Credit Union, each buying one share for $5.00. In 1960 the name of the Credit Union was changed to the Yakima City and County Employees Credit Union in order to expand the field of membership, and to allow all city and county employees to join. By 1985, the Credit Union had expanded its field of membership to include employer groups in the Yakima and Kittitas Counties, and the name was changed to Yakima Valley Credit Union. The Credit Union now serves all who live, work, worship or go to school in the State of Washington.
