Horizon Credit Union is a member owned financial cooperative with an extensive branch network spread throughout Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.

Originally Founded in 1947 as the Kaiser Employees Federal Credit Union, we were established to serve the needs of Kaiser Aluminum employees and their families.

By 1966, we had achieved $2 million in assets, and shortly thereafter began a series of charter expansions that allowed us to serve a greater number of members. The first of these expansions, which took place in 1970, allowed us to include Trentwood Industrial Park workers in our membership.

In 1980 construction was completed on the Trent Avenue Office. The following year, we changed our name to Horizon Federal Credit Union to reflect our growing field of membership. Our final name change-from Horizon Federal Credit Union to Horizon Credit Union—occurred in 1991 as we transferred from a Federal to a State chartered institution.

A series of mergers and charter expansions have helped widen Horizon's financial and membership base. In 1989 we merged with Superior Federal Credit Union, allowing us to expand our charter into Sandpoint, Idaho. Within two years we merged with Inland Power and Light Credit Union and subsequently opened the Third Avenue and Deer Park branches. Later, with the merger of Inland Power and Light and Lincoln County Electric in 1996, we opened our Davenport branch to accommodate the new membership. In 2002, Horizon Credit Union expanded our charter to include the entire state of Washington. Anyone who lives, works, or worships in the school districts of Washington are eligible to be Horizon members. In 2004, Mountain View Credit Union merged with Horizon Credit Union. This merger brought with it fantastic members, employees, and board members as well as our fourteenth branch located on Market Street in Spokane, WA. Also in 2004, Horizon applied for a charter expansion in North Idaho. We were granted a five county charter expansion to serve a great deal of the Idaho Panhandle. At the end of 2004 Horizon's assets were nearing $255 million. In 2006, Horizon expanded again by merging with Columbia Basin Federal Credit Union, adding 3 more branches in Moses Lake and Ephrata. This merger also provided fantastic members and employees. At the time, it was the largest credit union merger in Washington State history and increased Horizon's assets to $330 million, with a total membership base of over 30,000 members.

From our beginnings in 1947 to the present day, we have grown from a small office serving the needs of one company to 16 branches, providing membership to Eastern Washington, Central Washington and North Idaho. In that time, however, we have not forgotten the reason we were established: to provide individualized service to families with common needs.
