Golf Savings Bank is proud to be ranked as one of the best performing banks in the country.
Golf Savings Bank, now part of the Sterling Financial Family, began as Lynnwood Mortgage Corporation in 1981. Golf opened its doors as a full service bank in 2000 and by 2005 had become one of the most successful startup banks in US history.
In July of 2006, it joined the Sterling Financial Group. The Mortgage Division remains as Golf Savings Bank, and has added the offices formerly known as Action Mortgage, to more than double its growth. The residential mortgage side of Golf now has offices in four states (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah) and over 150 mortgage loan officers.
Golf's lone retail banking outlet, at Administrative headquarters in Mountlake Terrace, WA., remains, as does its Commercial Real Estate Lending department.
Golf's Construction Lending, a staple of the company since its 1981 start, is now a member of Action Mortgage Construction Lending, but maintains its office in Mountlake Terrace.
When former Golf Chairman Charles Ainslie started Lynnwood Mortgage in 1981, he had just three employees and a small office.
The company grew steadily. Riding the highs and lows of the economy, Lynnwood Mortgage made money every year, becoming one of the most successful mortgage banks in the Northwest.
By 2005, Golf Savings Bank ranked as Washington State's fifth largest mortgage lender, securing over $1.5 billion in loans. Nationally, the bank ranks as one of the great success stories in banking, reaching the top one percent among all FDIC banks (over 9,000) in return on assets and return on equity. In 2004, the American Banking Association's Banking Journal ranked Golf Savings as the eighth best-performing bank in the country.
Golf Savings Bank is not your typical bank. Since its early days as Lynnwood Mortgage, the company has always had a sense of family. People are treated with respect and celebrated for their individuality. That's likely the reason so many have stayed on for so many years. Loan officers, branch managers and other personnel among Golf Savings' employees are well tenured.
The company encourages and nurtures community support for many worthwhile causes, with a heavy emphasis on education. For years it has supported the University of Washington's women's golf program; the Institute for Motivational Reading; Friends, Families, Community; and dozens of smaller, local efforts, including College Place Elementary School in Edmonds.
