Safe, Secure and Financially Sound. These are strong accolades and we are proud to have earned the right to use them in describing Timberland Bank. Trusted since 1915. Another powerful designation in today's world and a milestone not celebrated by many banks. Southwest Washington Federal Savings and Loan was chartered over 94 years ago and is still headquartered at the corner of 7th and Simpson in Hoquiam, WA.

Through the years, the Hoquiam facility has undergone some physical changes, but the building that was constructed in 1965 still serves as the main branch office and headquarters for the bank.

Expansion of the bank took hold in 1969 when the Board of Directors appointed Clarence E. Hamre as President. The name was revised to Timberland Savings Bank and branch offices were opened in Forks and Aberdeen (1974), Montesano (1975), Ocean Shores (1977) and in Edgewood in 1980. The Forks office was later sold.

During the 1990's, the bank expanded into new market areas with branches opened in Auburn (1994), Puyallup/So. Hill (1996) and Lacey in 1997. In addition, a loan center opened in Port Orchard and has since become the full service branch now located in Poulsbo. In 1999 a new office opened in Spanaway, WA and became known as the Bethel Station branch.

In January 1998, Timberland Savings Bank converted to a state chartered stock savings bank owned by Timberland Bancorp, Inc. Soon after, the name was revised to Timberland Bank to better reflect the full range of products and services we offer. Timberland stock is publicly traded on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "TSBK." The bank has been recognized for solid performance since inception.

As the century was about to change, the bank extended its footprint in Pierce and Thurston counties with new branches opening in Tumwater (2001), Silverdale, Olympia (2003) and Gig Harbor (2004).

In 2003, after 34 years of service, Mr. Hamre announced his retirement. Executive Vice President Michael R. Sand, who has been with the bank for over 25 years, was unanimously elected President.

In the fall of 2004, the bank agreed to purchase seven branches from Venture Bank which added in-market branches and expanded the growing network of community locations into Lewis County.

Our 22nd full service location opened in May 2009 at Libery Plaza in Chehalis, WA. Timberland Bank now operates in six counties of Western Washington and has assets of $675,700 as of June 30, 2009.

The Seattle Times, Puget Sound Business Journal and Washington CEO magazine have each recognized Timberland Bancorp as a Top 100 Northwest company.
